Stop motion

OVERVIEW

Stop motion animation is a form of animation in which various frames with a real-life object (which is placed in a slightly different position per different frame) are played in sequence to simulate movement.

WHAT WILL I USE THE SOFTWARE FOR

I will use stop-motion animation to develop a sequence of photos to portray a story. I will use toys and many other objects found commonly in a house.

PMI

POSITIVE

Stop motion animation is very entertaining to play back and especially that the internet is now turning to gifs for entertainment it is becoming more recognized.

MINUS

Stop motion animation takes a very long while to develop, especially as objects can be influenced by different factors (i.e. if it is windy and you are filming outside). You are not in full control of what could happen.

INTERESTING

Stop motion animation is interesting because of the way it allows for more creativity (due to the extra amount of materials and objects that can be accessed and used).

HOW TO USE

All that is needed for stop-motion is a camera and various objects. Much like flip animation, there is a starting frame where objects are placed accordingly, and from this they are moved slightly for each new frame. Afterwards, these can either be connected to a computer or on the camera itself and scrolled through, creating the illusion of movement.

WHAT TYPE OF ANIMATION

Stop motion animation is a type of animation that incorporates real-life objects and settings. These can be placed in CGI-created environments.

EXAMPLE

This was the 2009 Sundance Film Festival Winner.
